About MediCann Czech Republic

MediCann Czech Republic, z.s. is a registered association (zapsaný spolek) founded in 2017. Its purpose is to inform the public about both the benefits and the risks of cannabis use, to bring together patients who need cannabis-based treatment, and to support education based on scientific evidence.

We are a small, independent organisation. The association is run by its founder and chair, Roman Pangel, who personally answers every message.

We believe that access to accurate, evidence-based information is a fundamental right and the best way to reduce stigma. Our educational work is informational and humanitarian: we do not promote the recreational use of cannabis or any other substance, and nothing on this website is medical advice.

What we do

Our work follows the purposes set out in our statutes.

Education

We give talks, workshops and webinars and prepare educational materials on medical cannabis, the endocannabinoid system and therapeutic use – based on published research, for professionals and the general public.

Harm reduction

We promote safer practices and objective information that help minimise the risks associated with cannabis use, with a focus on public health and individual well-being.

Patient advocacy

We represent the interests of patients who rely on cannabis-based therapies and advocate for their right to safe, legal and affordable access to treatment in the Czech Republic.

How we are funded

Our work is funded by donations and by our secondary economic activity: as permitted by its statutes, the association runs the MediCann online shop with CBD products (medicann.cz). All income is used for the association's purposes; no profit is distributed to members.

Education and the shop are kept separate – our educational content is not product advertising.

Is MediCann Czech Republic a company or a non-profit?

It is a non-profit registered association (zapsaný spolek), founded in 2017 and registered at the Municipal Court in Prague under file L 67978 (IČ 05852951).

Is the association connected to the MediCann shop at medicann.cz?

Yes. The association runs the shop as a secondary economic activity permitted by its statutes. Income from the shop funds our work and is not distributed to members. Our educational content does not promote specific products.

Can you give me medical advice?

No. We provide general information only. Treatment with medical cannabis must be decided by a doctor, so please talk to yours. Official information for patients is published by SÚKL, the State Institute for Drug Control.

Is medical cannabis legal in the Czech Republic?

Yes, on prescription. Doctors in the Czech Republic have been able to prescribe medical cannabis since 2013, and since 2020 public health insurance can cover most of the cost under set conditions. The rules change over time, so check the current information at SÚKL or with your doctor.
